And Now a Word From the 12th Man by David Dayton with Photos From Carolyn Frye

Dear World~

We accept the fact that you had to sacrifice a whole Sunday to find where the Pacific Northwest
was on a map (and no, we're not southeast Alaska, nice try though) and we accept the fact that
everyone thinks that all we do here is eat "brownies," ride ferry boats, throw fish around and
passively-aggressively stand on street corners in the rain while we compare our beards, complain
and drink our mochas, and we're fine with that.

But, we think you're crazy to expect the 12th
man and the Seattle Seahawks to be who *you* think we should be, say the things that *you* think
we should say and to look the way *you* think we should look. The motley crew that is the 12th
man and the Seattle Seahawks have captured the imagination of our youth; we've inspired, we've
intimidated; we've represented; we've broken records; we've rewritten *how it's done* while
staying honest and true to ourselves; we've formed legions; we've united and bonded and
electrified an entire city -- an entire state.

Yet, World, you continue to search for confining
words so that you can understand and describe us. You see us as you want to see us: in the
simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. We all see a bit of ourselves in the other
one and, through this, what we found out is that each one of us is:

a cheer-leading, aging coach-guru with a brain. . .
and a focused, inspirational, meditating yet undersized athlete . . .
and a charming yet loud-mouthed, egotistical basket case . . .
an overlooked, immature, under-appreciated "golden" princess . . .
and a silently endearing yet beastly thug with a sweet tooth.
At the end of the day, we're very real and we're all about that action, boss.
Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,
The city of Seattle, the 12th man and our Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Seattle Seahawks .
